Why does Profhilo hurt?
Patients often report that Profhilo can be a painful treatment and this makes them think twice about thetreatment.
Why is Profhilo painful?
Well, Profhilo does not contain numbing agents like other injectable treatments, this means that you get no numbing effect when it is injected. This can lead to an increased perception of pain.
Each injection point is also very shallow and we inject a biggish dose into a very small, shallow area of the face. This can put initial pressure on the tissues and be uncomfortable.
Profhilo is also a very thick, gooey substance which means it can’t be injected out of a very small needle. This means a bigger needle is used and this can be more uncomfortable.
So how do we minimise Profhilo pain?
We can apply some numbing cream to the face 15 minutes before the injections, which can help limit the discomfort. Other things such as ice packs prior to injection can also help.
Dr Kim offers Profhilo treatments using a cannula. This means she makes only one injection point and delivers the treatment in a fan like pattern over the cheek. There are then less injection points and less discomfort. Dr Booysen has done several case studies using ultrasound to confirm the correct placement and adequate results using this technique.
Is it worth the hype?
Profhilo is used to plump and tighten by increasing collagen, increase elasticity, hydrate, increase radiance, redefine and remodel tissue while improve tissue regeneration.
Because we lose collagen and moisture as we age, Profhilo is an ideal treatment to combat these effects. Often the true effects of these treatments are only seen years later when the appearance of the signs of ageing are delayed.
